Summary: In a press conference, Congressman Alphonzo E. Bell, Jr. announces councilman Tom Bradley has accepted the chairmanship of a committee of inner-city leaders to round up support for creation of the park. The chance of receiving a significant federal contribution for the project is largely based on the ability to demonstrate broad-based support for the park from all potential voters. Bradley states he has been supportive of parks in inner-city areas, and he is pleased to support the Bell Bill that would create a national park in the Santa Monica Mountains serving 10 million people. Includes silent shots of cameramen, Bell and Bradley talking and reporters. There is also nearly a minute of greenish grey screen with no sound.

[Alphonzo Bell:] This urban park has the potential for helping to meet both the mountain and coastal recreational needs of more than 10 million people of Southern California, almost 5% of the national population. And our chances of receiving a significant federal contribution to this project, re- basis- is based largely on our ability to demonstrate broad-based support for the park from all potential users. [Tom Bradley:] I am very supportive of parks and recreation facilities within the inner city. I've already developed, in my own area, some many parks where we couldn't find enough land to build a larger park facility. But I think that we'd have great use of that facility, and I'm very pleased to see that a number of leaders in the inner city have joined with me in supporting this effort. [Bell:] ... uh, stated in answer to another question... [Man:] Wait a minute. We can look forward to this morning, to be able to announce that Los Angeles City Councilman, Tom Bradley, has accepted the chairmanship, of and has - and is willing to help organize a very impressive committee of inner city leaders who endorse and will be working to round up support for the park, and who will also be working on proposals which will result in the fullest use of this major recreational facility by inner city residents. I will pass out now... [Bradley:] I'm very pleased to join in supporting the Bell Bill, which would create this National Park in the Santa Monica Mountains. This, of course, is the last great reserve in the state of California. It would serve 10 million people and we believe that it is important to the inner city as it is to...
