[Reporter Mike Botula] The weather broke just long enough for the brief ceremony to take place. South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan and his wife were greeted by Mayor Tom Bradley at Angels Gate Park. The crowd waved American and Korean flags and applauded warmly. There were no demonstrators here like the ones who protested Chun's presence in Los Angeles yesterday. The Korean Friendship Bell was presented to the United States during the 1976 bicentennial year. For that reason, Chun's officiating at the bell ringing ceremony has special significance for both Americans and Koreans. After the bell ringing ceremony Chun, Bradley and other officials moved over to plant a tree of friendship at another ceremony but the rains came again and that part of the ceremony was cut short. The dignitaries then got into their cars and caravan back to Los Angeles. The President is getting the full VIP treatment on his visit to Los Angeles but it's actually only the warm up to the big event- the meeting next week in Washington with President Reagan. In San Pedro, Mike Botula reporting for News at 10:00. [Sound of strong wind and airplanes overhead]. [Band playing]. [Sound of strong wind and flags flapping]. [Sound of bell being rung].
