[Tom Bradley] Well, in Washington I have some appointments to talk with representatives from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. They have quite a number of parcels of property here in our city that have been abandoned, that they've taken over by foreclosure, and I want to talk with them about what use might be made of those facilities. [Dick Garten] How much is there in acreage or number of lots? How large of parcels are they? [Bradley] There are over 4,000 separate houses. [Garten] And can we put those under FHA or something to make them habitable for low-income people? [Bradley] Well that's what I'm going to talk about. I want to see what possibility there is that the city can expedite the use of those homes. In many cases are still habitable, in some cases they will have to be rehabilitated. [airport noise] [Garten] Mr. Mayor, what is the reason for the trip to Washington and then on... ...up to 20 million dollars for rapid transit that is Gas Tax Fund money. Will you be looking into rapid transit while you're there? As a matter of fact I'm going to talk with someone about the Department of Transportation, and I'm sure we'll explore that possibility as well. [Garten] And on to Florida for what sir? [Bradley] My college fraternity is honoring me there and I'm going for that particular purpose. [Garten] Congratulations. [Reporter] That's a long way to go, isn't it? [Bradley] Thank you. [Reporter] It's a long way to go for a college fraternity meeting? [Bradley] No. No they meet all over the country and each year it's a different location. [Garten] What is the fraternity, Mr. Mayor? [Bradley] Kappa Alpha Psi. [Garten] And you were a member here at UCLA? [Bradley] Yes. That's right. [Garten] A national fraternity and a national conference? [Bradley] Yes. [Garten] Good luck to you. Congratulations. [Bradley] Thank you very much. [Reporter] Thank you.
