[Music] [Music] hello I'm Gerry Bartel we're all here jingle can be in gay ready for playtime and just around the corner from the story it's about a funny old dwarf that's you jingle a king who was always running out of money candy a girl whose father boasted she could spin straw into gold that's gay and the boastful father himself me I guess so if you're ready let's go round the court too once upon a time there was once a Miller who had one bad fault he boasted to hear him tell the flower he milled was always the finest the fish that got away from him were always the biggest the corn he grew was always the highest but his tallest tale of all was that his daughter Gretchen could spin straw in the gold if he had a spinning wheel for her he'd be rich before another sunrise foolish man the story reached the ears of the king and because his treasury was always empty and gold would come in handy he thought he'd find out if the story were true so he got into his royal carriage and went to visit the Miller he wanted to see if indeed there were such a remarkable girl and if there were he had a job the poor Miller was frightened and nervous and he didn't dare deny his story there Gretchen the King my daughter Gretchen your majesty the king ordered the girl to go to the castle with him Gretchen had never heard her father's foolish story about her and couldn't understand why his majesty should have come for her but there was nothing to do but obey so she went with a king and the Miller returned to his work with a heavy heart at the castle the king took Gretchen to a room where there was nothing but a chair and a spinning wheel and a pile of straw on the floor he ordered her to spin the straw in the goal before dark and told her if she didn't she and her father would die poor girl of course she couldn't spin straw into gold she was sure she'd forfeit her life and her father's by a nightfall while she was crying she felt a tap on her shoulder and they're sort of funny little dwarf sniffing girl I can help you what will you give me if I spin this straw into gold what did she give him anything anything at all but she was only a miller's daughter she had no gold no jewels she had nothing to give will you give me your first son that was a strange thing for the dwarf to ask maybe she would never have a son why she wasn't even married yet and anyway she had no choice if the straw was to be spun into gold she'd have to give the little man whatever he asked could he do it I take the straw into my hand the wheel goes round and round spinning fine strong present with happy forwarding he had done it a pure gleaming gold friend came from the spinning wheel Christiane and her father were saying [Music] it's magic no doubt about it it's magic but what care I know I won't die the king will get his gold from my [Music] four hours that walk works filling spindle after spindle with gold just as the Sun was setting the last of the straw went into the spinning wheel and a knock came at the door here you are don't forget your promise the dwarf warned and disappeared the king was greatly pleased to see the stars but into gold enough to last in his lifetime and he was pleased to to see that Gretchen nozzoli took a good look at her was a girl of charm and beauty as well as rare tell'em he asked her to be his queen and when she got over her surprise Gretchen said yes [Music] and so they were married [Music] the Miller had much to boast about these days because sad to say he hasn't learned his lesson and I think he boasted most of all when the king and queen had a baby boy the miller's grandson everyone was overjoyed at the birth of the Prince and Queen Gretchen quite forgot her promise to the dwarf who had served her so well and then one evening the dwarf returned the Queen was terrified she pleaded she begged she offered the dwarf her jewels even her crown in place of her baby he refused but when he saw her despair it's a pity on the for mother let's just keep the boy on one condition you must guess my name within three days when the dwarf returned that dusk the following day Queen Gretchen gave him every name she'd ever heard of Richard Thomas Henry Harry Jeffery Robert but to all of them the dwarf said no now Queen Gretchen was worried she sent for everyone in the castle a scullery maid a court jester the ladies-in-waiting a stableboy and Azen each to make out a list of names so that when the dwarf arrived that evening she would be ready for him Conrad ever Edison Cruikshank's Beyonder Aloysius Maximilian Ferdinand Ignatius the boy would be here's the dwarf was sure one day and he was gone [Music] now the queen was desperate out into all corners of the kingdom she sent messengers to seek out strange names one messenger came upon a queer site in front of a Hut deep and the darkest part of the forest a funny little old man had built a fire and was dancing around [Music] [Music] [Music] the messenger hearted to the Queen was about so high with a long beard it was he on the third evening the Queen waited with a baby in the Rose Garden the dwarf was most impatient when he arrived come come give him to me not yet she answered I have more names to guess is your name Edgar is it fritz one more kiss is your name Rumplestiltskin enrage the base became frightened and tired and the looked out at the baby when she looked back the dwarf was gone and where he had stood lay a tiny wooden figure of himself no bigger than a baby's hand [Music] everything went along fine for Queen Gretchen after that for a good many years as for the Miller he never got over his posting probably because he always had someone to listen to him the princes and princesses who thought their grandpa told the best stories in all the world [Music] and I think so too don't you we'll have another playtime for you soon with a story old or new foreplay timers young and old see you then [Music] [Music] [Music]
