musicians prepared their instruments but changwu tofu gave he was looking over a surprise he prepared for his bride beside the door to the house where they would live together he had planted a flowering vine as it reached upward that the vines growth would mark their years together shouts in the popping of firecrackers call him to the outer courtyard where even dyed sedan-chair has arrived and yin yang is stepping out to enter her future husband's home she doesn't know chamber her father arranged her marriage and she must accept his choice of husband for her Cheng Wu takes her hands and bids her welcome and then for the first time Cheng who sees his Brides face she is beautiful and modest and as heart knows more happiness than it can hold the wedding celebration is over the guests have left Cheng Wu was taking yin yang to the garden to show her the vine he's planted but he stopped at the moon gate by a visitor he's never seen before an old man stooped and bearded he hands Cheng hua scroll and takes his leave Cheng who reads the scroll the best that life has to give a man is yours know it and guard it well what does it mean the best that life has to give why that can mean only one thing immortality to live forever he must go learned the mystery of the scroll and though yin yang begs him not to leave her he follows the unknown visitor out into the dusk far upon Altan path Cheng who followed the stranger and then the old man disappears Cheng rue is ready to give up the chase when he comes upon a queer sight at the mouth of a cave sits the old man playing chess with another man it would be rude indeed for changwu to interrupt their play with questions so he sits down and waits for them to speak but they take no notice of him other than to offer him a sweetmeat the taste he's never known before as he eats while hunger and thirst lead him he forgets his errand and becomes quite interested in the game after some time he gets up to go and is surprised to see that the old men's beards are much longer than when he came in I hope my beard never grows as quickly he said how long do you think you have been here perhaps half an hour half an hour or half a thousand years they are the same to one who has sampled v30 your home and see what has happened since you left the moon gate the arch has fallen his garden overgrown untended the vine he'd planted for yin-yang how could it have grown so fast something dreadful has happened when the house comes strangers and in his confusion Cheng will forgets the rules of politeness who are you where is your name there is no union here you have come to the wrong house this is my house what have you done with your name I am old but I have remember a story my grandmother heard from her grandmother about a young bride named yin yang her husband went up into the mountain on their wedding day to learn how to live forever he was never seen again for changwu time has stood still and a hundred years have passed like half an hour Cheng rule went back up the mountain to the cave the old men were no farther along in their chess game than they'd been before honorable fathers tell me how I make it back the year that passed while I sat with you we cannot help you but perhaps the king of the Dragons will only he can turn time backwards but the king of the Dragons lived in the clouds beyond the mountain peak how could Cheng we'll ever get there a thousand and two steps then turn right Cheng Wu thank the Ancient Ones and he began his long climb through flashing light and blinding clouds Cheng who approached the throne with the Dragon King sat and watched the world of bends with a great window of now I know why you come Cheng wall you come from now you wish to return there to what has been what do you see you see nothing or no man may have time passed unless he proves himself worthy first bring me a wind in a paper and fire in a paper for changwu he was no magician who could capture the wind or forbid fire to burn back on earth Chang will return to the garden of the moon gate he fell asleep and dreamed of yin yang Cheng who listened night fell before the Sun was in the heaven the nightingale was killed before aside you left me when our love was in the blah to get cyber to bring your black again no breeze there is to stir the cherry branches the Sun beats courtyard Cornwall I make the wind my captive but with my friend and it him come and go and ere I call the silent shadows gather round and stars across the seas of night and boy I kept your fire in a paper lantern and hold it to brighten of course wind and a paper a fan fire in a paper a lantern the Dragon King was pleased but he had one test more of Chang will worthiness to return to the path tell me what is the best that life has to give a man Cheng rule would not be wrong again honorable sir the best that life has to give a man is a helpful and loving wife what happened then he was never sure he stood before the window of what has been Thunder crash and black closed in around the next he knew he was tending inside the moon gate in the dim light everything seemed as it had been on his wedding day but was it the vine was it young and small again no it's tough an age at Trump still rose against the wall he hadn't been given back the years he lost it was a cruel trick of the Dragon King to punish him but in the thick trunk banished and the young green plant reached up the wall in its place and the voice is it you where have you been so long come come my pretty one see what I have planted it will grow strong and tall as our sons grow beside it and beautiful with blossoms as our daughters play in achieved and then a strange thing happened first flower lefted its petal phase to the evening an omen of good luck the keeping of a promise said Cheng moon and to the land of the Sun and the moon and the clouds he raised his eyes to thank the Dragon King or beside him stood once more the best that life has to give a man he would guard it well you may not believe it but that's the way it happened or so I've been told and now I've told you I was up by gay who acted and danced the part of jinyang jingle who was one of the old men when he wasn't hiding behind the head of the Dragon King and candy who played the part of Shang Wu other unidentified characters were probably yours truly
