Filmed on locations where the writers lived and wrote about, McKenna's performances, aided by members of the Abbey Theatre, include: Mrs. Tancred from Sean O'Casey's Juno and the Paycock, a scene from John Millington Synge's Riders to the Sea, an excerpt from Samuel Beckett's Happy Days, Lennox Robinson's Drama at Inish, a portrayal of George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan, and the washerwomen scene from James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake.
