Complete Record: Entitled “Motor Trip to Victoria and return, June and July, 1929, Inter titles announce: Ox Bow Inn. Great old Packard and other cars of period. Eel River. Redwood Highway with tilting views of redwoods and MS of forest undergrowth. Trinidad Head, Humble County. Coast between Eureka and Crescent City. Klamath River Bridge. Crescent River. Redwoods on old road beyond Crescent City. Columbia River. Multnomah Falls. Leaving Seattle (by boat). Interesting section on what appears to be Shriner’s dancing on deck; they wear fezzes, but maybe they are Turkish? June 1929, Vancouver Island. Victoria. Empress Hotel. S.S. “Princess Kathleen and Nora.” Houses of Parliament. (Good street scene and harbor shots.) S.S. “Princess Patricia.” Last half of film has no inter-titles: Santa Barbara Fiesta parade. Seems to be near harbor and Hotel Californian in the background. Parade is arranged from Native Americans, to Spanish explorers, American Colonial period. Mission period. Ox carts followed by Santa Barbara “first families” in coaches. Spanish senoritas, pirates, float with raising of Bear Flag. Conestoga wagon. Miners. Fiesta float with dancing. Grande Spanish-dressed dames. By-standers sitting on sea wall to watch parade which seems to progress along waterfront. Later parades came down State Street. Cars are parked in a line on opposite side of the street on the grass. Horse pulled street car followed by more miners. Senoras promenade and talk with sitting viewers. Stage coach. Scene changes to market area -- El Paseo? new Courthouse? Library building? -- somewhere in Santa Barbara. There is food being served by formally dressed servers. Costumed people mix and buy from vendors. Entertainers: Fandango dancers, Spanish dancers, musicians, , , , Sign appears that identifies one shot as El Paseo. Scene switches to beach and swimmers. Pre-oil drilling days. No tar on beach! Scene changes back to El Paseo and filmmakers acquaintances. People in canoe on water, having fun. Period swimming garb. Ladies adjusting swimming caps. People in canoes having hard time with waves. Some capsizes. North American/ Pacific Coast/ Redwood Highway/ Columbia River/ Victoria/ Santa Barbara/ Santa Barbara Fiesta. This is rare and unusual film footage for Santa Barbara.
