The huge popularity of Porter's original 1903 film of the same title prompted blatant imitations. This version, made by Philadelphia's Lubin company, went so far as to remake the film virtually scene for scene, differing only in an occasional detail (a different caldendar, for example). (see Great train robbery, Porter version in M16 71).
