Description: Consists of an experiment in which cats are trained to depress a switch which delivers an air blast (or electric shock) followed by food. Interprets an instance where cats continue to operate the switch while food is withheld as involving 'MASOCHISTIC' factors. Shows that if the shock is excessive or food is indefinitely withheld, 'MASOCHISTIC' behavior is extinguished and 'NEUROSIS' develops.
