Experiment at Monticello : Thomas Jefferson and smallpox vaccination

Teaching Film Custodians abridged classroom version of a Cavalcade of America television series episode, "Experiment at Monticello" (season 1, episode 12), which originally aired March 4th, 1953 on NBC-TV. Dramatized incidents show how President Thomas Jefferson uses himself as a guinea pig, receiving inoculation with a smallpox vaccine, in effort to establish control of the disease and break down public superstition regarding the use of the vaccine during the 1801 epidemic.
