Over scenes of him at work earning money through his street painting, he describes his quest to become a better artist. In a California schoolyard, one of Kurt's masterpieces unfolds over a period of two days. With the guidance of an art teacher and more chalks, there is soon an entire class of sixth grade street painters at work alongside Kurt.
