[Music] it is a Sunday afternoon in Buenos Aires Argentina a fine day to go to the park a beautiful day to go sailing or spend the afternoon on the tennis courts it is a perfect day to join the colorful excited crowd at the racetrack of San Ysidro and watch the horses run a Sunday afternoon and Oliver way no Cyrus people are relaxing after a busy week in South America's largest city Buenos Aires is the cap of Argentina second largest country in South America and eighth largest in the world Argentina takes up most of southern South America and is bordered by Chile Bolivia Paraguay Brazil and Uruguay with a long coastline on the Atlantic Ocean within the borders of Argentina are many types of land and climate in the West are the high Andes Mountains which take up almost 1/3 of the country the rest of Argentina is a great plain stretching from the dry hot forests of the north to the windy plateau area of the south to the pampas the flat grassy plains that form the heart of Argentina the city of Buenos Aires is situated in the pampas on the wide plateau River the Rio de la Plata is only 100 miles long but at some points more than 50 miles across wayna cyrus is a huge sprawling metropolis of over 3 million people with another 3 million in districts surrounding the city in Buenos Aires most things such as the city's tall skyscrapers are built on a large scale in day in the city it is a day when most of the people of Buenos Aires go to church both of them are Roman Catholics for students it is a fine day to sketch in one of the city's many parks in Argentina and especially Buenos Aires the people are mostly of European descent their families came from Spain England Italy and Germany to settle and build a new country one of huayna sarees most colourful cattle raising there is a lot of work involved in rounding up the cattle branding them and getting them ready to ship the stockyards in the big city the men who work on the Estancia are called Gauchos they are the rugged Cowboys of Argentina it was the colorful gaucho who rolled and tamed the puffles in the early days of Argentina today thanks to him most of the land has been settled the Gaucho can be proud of the party has played in helping Argentina to grow in the pampas dairy cattle are raised to provide milk butter and cheese for the people of Argentina's big city the vast pampas have a children read and write and go to school than in any other South American country in the city of Buenos Aires many of the children attend Catholic schools the girls wear neat uniform the boys wear suits tie in the city or the country Argentina children will have the chance for a good education each year thousands of cattle are shipped from the pampas to the stockyards of huayna sorry there they Argentina's people situated in the center of Argentina is the city of Cordoba second only to Buenos Aires inside and one of the country's earliest Spanish settlements Cordoba was founded in 1573 and still contains many buildings such as the old cathedral which are several hundred years of age the city is backed by the Sierras of quarter puff roll mountains that are a favorite vacation spot for the people of Argentina in the beautiful Sierras there are many lakes and there is good fishing boating and swimming Cordova today is a modern city growing in importance to its country in recent years it has become a leading industrial city and the center of Argentina's automotive industry Argentina now has a huge factory that turns off automobiles and jeeps and truck transportation for Argentina made by the people of Argentina even more important to a country that depends on its agriculture is the new tractor factory where modern farm equipment is manufactured when work is over in the factories of cordoba thousands of workers ride home with a roar of motors and in a cloud of dust perhaps it is the sign of a growing nation that in Cordova the horse has been replaced by the motorcycle forming a barrier between Argentina and her Western neighbor Chile are the towering Andes Mountains the famous Christ of the Andes marks the border between the two nations a symbol of lasting peace and friendship the Andes are dominated by mighty feats such is not aconcagua at 23,000 feet it is the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere although the eastern slope of the Andes is very dry a few streams flow from the melting snows of the mountain they turn into rushing rivers that could be put to you irrigating the land and so the rivers flow into the beautiful countryside of Mendoza the fruit and vegetable basket of Argentina here in Mendoza grapes are grown and harvested grapes to be eaten or made into wine many Italian families have settled on farms around Mendoza they have kept the customs and language and ways of life of the land they left behind them and dozer is indeed a beautiful power almost hit by bench bullies these streets are lined with trees that seem to form tunnels of greenery not far from mendoza is one of Argentina's largest oil fields oil is one of the few minerals that the country possesses in any large amount companies are constantly drilling and exploring to find new reserves of this precious fuel but the countryside around Mendoza is mostly put to agricultural use olives are grown and picked apples are brought from nearby orchards to back the investment doses here the fruit will be sorted wrap label and put in boxes ready for shipping by truck or by train apples from Mendoza arrived in Buenos Aires once more the road has led to Argentina's capital city carrying products from the interior these products will be put to use by the people of Buenos Aires for dinner there are states from the cattle of the poplin bread made from wheat that also comes from the muffler there are wool sweaters from the sheets of Patagonia and fresh fruit apples plum and grapes from the proof basket of Mendoza as they enjoy a sunny afternoon the people of huayna sarees can be thankful for the beautiful city in which they live and thankful for the many products from all parts of their country Argentina [Music] you [Music]
