Complete Record: Subject: Presents events in the life of female vocalist Aretha Franklin. Shows her in rehearsals, talking to her friends and advisors, performing on stage, and relaxing at home. Production is based on the program, The Singers: Two Profiles. Shots: Aretha sings in sound studio, she receives plaque on stage and Martin Luther King walks on to congratulate her, shots of audience cheering, she then sings “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman”, her manager speaks about her, she speaks, plays piano and sings gospel, then in church (with big hair), women in fur hats, she speaks of singing in the choir, her father (a minister) speaks and gives singing sermon, choir sings, Jerry Wexler (Atlantic Records producer) speaks, Aretha speaks at piano with her manager, sings gospel at piano in church, father speaks of the history of gospel and of Aretha’s development as gospel singer, back at recording studio with black musicians (electric guitarists), Aretha speaks of working with the band, then some fun early 60s footage of her singing ‘Chain of Fools’ on “Swingin’ Time” TV program where teenagers dance (white and black) , band surrounds piano where Aretha plays to as she says “work out a tune”, Aretha’s sister helps, back at recording studio Aretha smokes a cigarette while listening to her recording, back up singers practice moves with Aretha, manager looks on, then he speaks, then they are all on stage performing “Respect”, audience reaches out to Aretha, final shot is Aretha singing “Natural Woman” as credits flash on screen.
