Complete Record: 1.) Shows that some newborn animals face an environment that is often harsh and perilous. Demonstrates that the young of some species strike out on their own shortly after birth while others depend on their parents for food and protection for several months, gradually learning the survival techniques necessary to reach self-reliant adulthood. Examples of a thousand-pound baby whale and a tiny baby robin , seem to have nothing in common, but they share one thing with all other members of the animal kingdom. They must learn to survive on their own. Rabbit-like pikas, trumpeter swans, beavers, fur seals, cougars, among others. Other examples include baby sea-turtles, crocodiles, red foxes and coyotes. 2.) Introduces a variety of familiar and exotic animals and their offspring. Looks at the offspring of such animals as fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals; compares such things as size, number of babies born at a time, habitat and parental care. 3.) Looks at the many different ways that animal babies grow up. Reveals that puppies get their milk from their mothers, penguins get their food from both parents, ducklings get their own food but stay close to the mother, snakes are born and able to take care of themselves. Examines mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects. Animal babies grow up in many different ways. Some need their parents, some do not. Many examples are shown from the varied world of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects.
