Pictures the activities of a group of women in northern Afghanistan and uses translations of their statements to explain their feelings, attitudes, and customs. Shows traditional dress, breadmaking, and the preparation of household goods for an upcoming marriage. Explains the marriage customs and the society's attitudes toward death, education for women, and the woman's place in national affairs., Provides interviews with Afghan women whose comments delineate both the satisfying and the confining aspects of a woman's role in a rural Afghan community.
