Afghan Nomads: The Maldar

Documents the life style of the Maldar, nomadic herdsmen of Afghanistan. Relies primarily on the visual, using only a few captions, to observe migration, campsites, living conditions, camel transportation, herding, and dress. Presents one Maldar family head who characterizes the scarcity of irrigated land and the lack of political power as the reasons for Maldar poverty and nomadic existence. Explains, briefly, the family structure., Shows how Afghan nomads and townspeople interact with a mixture of faith and distrust that has kept the two groups separate yet interdependent over the centuries.
