This silent 16mm home movie takes viewers on a picturesque tour through Blue Ridge Parkway which is a National Parkway and All-American road noted for its scenery which this film focuses primarily on. It is the US’s longest linear parkway running through Virginia and North Carolina. It runs mainly along the spine of the Blue Ridge mountain chain. A map points to the Parkway’s location (:30). Trees with changing autumn leaves and shrubbery of the area are shown (2:30). Trail’s Cabin is seen which is one of the few remaining log buildings left in the area (4:18). The cabin was constructed in the 1890’s by the Trail family. Rakes Mill Pond (4:57) is seen. The stone facing of a nearby mill dam (5:10) had been constructed in the 19th century by Jarman Rakes Miller. Mabry Mill follows (6:21) which had been constructed by E. B. Mabry in 1910. Nearby the mill is a gristmill, sawmill and blacksmith shop (6:41-7:13). The fences of the area are pointed to which are built from dead chestnut wood and include various styles (8:28). Puckett Cabin (9:32) was the home of Mrs. Orlean Hawks Puckett from 1865 to 1939. She was a skilled midwife that lived to be 102 years old. The surrounding wooded area and road nearby are seen (9:46). Stone Mountain is seen in Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina (10:28). Wildcat rock follows (11:40) which rises at an elevation of 3,790 feet. The homestead of pioneer Harrison Caudill and his wife Jossie (12:17) is spotted in a small clearing among a thickly wooded area. Brinegar Cabin (13:42), the historic cabin in Traphill, North Carolina is viewed including a back view of the cabin which shows the porch supported by a bending post (13:54). A watermill is seen in operation (15:15). A river running through the area is viewed from between trees atop a hill (17:32). Small water falls and white river rapids bubble on camera (19:45) as well as a few larger waterfalls of the area (21:52). The camera then pans up from a sign indicating a view of Grandfather Mountain to show the mountain’s peak encircled in fog (23:37). A lake is shot amidst forests (23:57). North Cove Valley is seen cutting through the land (25:28). The film draws to a conclusion while watching a sunset (29:20) and with images of fog over the now darkened hills and forests (30:04).
