Description:
The Livingstons go on a trip to Europe in 1948. They travel over to England on the Queen Elizabeth and on board are Olympic hopefuls for the London games (possibly shots of the Cuban fencing team practicing on deck). They dock at Southampton and go to London - scenes of the sights of London including Buckingham Palace and Pall Mall, with Horseguards and soldiers outside the palace. Streets and markets of London (Shoes Berwick st Market and stalls along Rupert St), including the Tower of London, Westminster Cathedral, St Pauls Cathedral, Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace and gardens. They then travel to Amsterdam, Lucerne, the Rhone Glacier, Venice, Rome, Pompeii, Amalfi, Nice (staying at the Hotel Negresco), and Paris (showing views from the Eiffel tower, streets of Paris, Champs Elysses, Arc de Triomph, Montmatre, Place de L’Opera, markets and Versailles) before returning home with shots of the docks at New York. Various scenes in all the towns and areas visited.
The Livingston family films were bought in an estate sale by Mr. Buck Chandler and donated along with the Chandler family home movies. The collection consists of 3 home movies in color from the 1940s and 1950s and show a cruise to the Caribbean and to Europe, probably of the Livingston family from Atlanta, GA (not confirmed). The film shows Mr. Roy Livingston and his wife, Bess, and daughter, Leslie Livingston, on their boat and on ships to foreign climes. Copyright University of South Carolina. All rights reserved.
