Description: This silent, 1942 16mm home movie shows a trip to the Grand Canyon made by an unknown American tourist. It begins with point of view shots out of the moving train, including shots of the steam locomotive pulling the train (1:51). At (4:16) soldiers are seen on the platform at the Grand Canyon station, followed by shots of the Canyon itself. At (5:30) well dressed tourists listen to a guide at the South Rim. At (7:38) Native Americans perform dances for the tourists. At (11:04) a man in an elaborate headdress looks directly at the camera. At (11:43) an elegantly dressed woman feeds a deer. At (14:10) a Santa Fe railroad steam locomotive is seen idling trackside. It appears to be the #3781. According to the Internet this was brand new at the time, having been built by Baldwin in 1941 and was part of the Santa Fe class 3776.
