Dating to 1939, this home movie shows views of the Golden Gate International Exposition and the Tournament of Roses Parade. The film begins with shots of the San Francisco World's Fair aka Golden Gate Exposition grounds. (Some of this footage is out of focus.) At 3:47, a couple gets into their new-looking Chevrolet Master or Master Deluxe, followed by brief shots in a Redwood forest, possibly at Sequoia National Park or the John Muir Woods.
This was the 49th annual Parade, the theme was “Playland Fantasies” and features marvelous floats and at 3:43 a 20th Century Fox wagon. At 7:38 Grand Marshal Leo Carillo is seen in a float. At 8:02 the Metropolitan Water District float "Golden Cities" is seen. At 8:20, the sensational Wizard of Oz float sponsored by Culver City where MGM Studios was located. Some of the other floats include Duke University at 8:37, and San Bernardino Orange Show at 10:08. At 10:27 a Humboldt County float, Arizona float at 11:39, the Taj Mahal float at 11:51, North Hollywood Circus Days float at 12:23, and more. The film ends with a Last Supper made out of flowers.
