16mm Sound Home Movie - Christmas in Goldsboro, NC, 1961

In 1961, my Dad's family gathered for Christmas at the Hicks family homestead in Goldsboro, NC. My dad, John Hicks, recorded the proceedings on both 16mm film and audio tape. He had no way to synchronize these two elements at that time, but with digital editing, it's relatively easy. I simply listened for the sound of the camera rolling on the audio tape, and match up those audio clips with the film cuts. Unfortunately, the film itself is mostly badly underexposed. I did my best with it, using a Retroscan Universal film scanner. Note that the first part of the film doesn't have synchronized sound- only the interviews at the end of the film do. My found films are generally available for use in your video projects. For non-commercial use, I simply require a credit and a link back to the original video on my YouTube channel.
