I was a few months old, my brother Steve 2 years older, and my sister Julie 4 years older. My dad, a total gadget freak, was filming with his 16mm camera and also recording stereo audio on his Teac A-2010 reel-to-reel tape deck. My dad never expected or intended the film and audio to go together- he was just capturing the event in two separate media. What he didn't know was that many years later, computer technology would make it simple to synchronize the film and the audio. The only difficulty lay in the fact that the film is only a few minutes long, while the full audio tape is a couple hours long. I found that by listening carefully to the audio, I could hear when the camera was rolling, so I edited together all those audio clips, and voila- they matched perfectly with the cuts in the film! There's some film at the beginning and end which does not have corresponding audio, so I put in some Christmas music played on the Optigan by Johnny Largo (CD available here: http://www.optigan.com/shoptigan/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=6). Heard prominently is my mom, Dolores. My dad, John, passed away in 1979, just prior to the personal computer revolution. He was a ham radio operator, going way back to the early days of amateur radio. He would have been endlessly fascinated with the technology we have available today.
