Zoo Animals In The Wild: Baboons (1981)

baboons baboons are monkeys the biggest there are they live mainly in Africa they're ferocious animals but if nobody bothers them they don't bother anybody most monkeys live in trees but not baboons they spend most of their time on the ground baboons live together in large family groups that are called troops The Troop usually stays close together it's safer that way [Music] [Applause] [Music] the bigger baboons often act as guards and keep watch for danger young baboons learn by imitating the older ones [Music] very young baboons are watched closely by their mother it's easy to travel when mother does the Walking for [Music] you the baboon troop travels from place to place looking for food while the older ones search the younger ones play together but the very young ones stay close to [Music] Mother baboons like other monkeys pick bits of dead skin out of each other's fur this is called [Music] grooming baboons eat the dead skin and also bits of salt that are there baboons seem to like being groomed usually an older one will be groomed by a younger [Music] one baboons live on grassy Plains where many other animals live they often live among giraffes baboons on the ground can't see as far giraffes can with their heads up in the trees so giraffes can usually tell if there's danger before baboon [Music] can but baboons do spend some of their time in the trees sometimes there's food in trees nuts and berries insects too baboons will eat just about anything and they eat all day long they do pretty well in trees after all they're [Music] monkeys if a baboon gets a little tired of jumping from Branch to Branch a a tree can be a safe place for a [Music] [Music] nap baboons like tree sap and honey or anything sweet of course since baboon spend most of their time on the ground they do most of their eating down there baboons have a better sense of smell than most monkeys do and they have pouches in their cheeks where they can store food other animals come to the water hole so the baboons have to be careful leopards and lions are their main enemies it seems safe here for now [Music] the baboon has heard something they'll all be gone before the lion gets to the water [Music] hole night is coming to the African plains where the baboons [Music] live some of them are up in the trees safe in the trees the baboons are resting baboons [Music] oh [Music] [Music]
