Description: This 1944 color restricted film about being an "Aviation Radioman" is part of a "Your Job in the Navy" series of recruitment films presented by the U.S. Navy. It opens with a view of the flat top of an escort type aircraft carrier (:16-:30). Radiomen wear headphones. One types on a piece of paper and hands it off (:32-:44). A sailor uses a multimeter. He polishes relay contacts on a radio transmitter (:46- 1:13). A stealth bomber is raised from the hangar on an elevator to the deck. The aviation radioman climbs into the rear cockpit. The bomber takes off. A view of the two men are shown in the air as they communicate with each other. At night, a submarine’s periscope cuts through the water below. The radioman sees it and identifies it as belonging to the enemy. He uses Morse code to send the message to a destroyer escorting the carrier. An explosion indicates the submarine has been destroyed (1:14-2:57). The aviation radioman now sees enemy planes arriving overhead. He radios the pilot the news. Aviation radiomen aboard the carrier receive the transmitted message and pass the warning on. Its planes fly to intercept the enemy. A flagman all in white signals each plane to depart (2:58-4:25). An enemy plane is coming. The aviation radioman swivels in his seat, raises up his machine gun, and fires.

aboard the Flatt tops or any of our Navy's fighting ships carrying planes the aviation radio man has an interesting and exciting job to perform in the Radio Shack of this carrier he has the all-important duty of carrying on the communications of the Navy's air [Music] arm in the performance of this Duty he must be able to repair replace and maintain transmitters receivers tubes batteries and interphone systems on planes he must also be able to operate such equipment radio equipment at se is subject to Salt Air and saltwater corrosion here he is polishing relay contacts on a radio [Music] transmitter a scout bomber is raised from the hanger deck on the after elevator Preparatory to taking off the aviation radio man climbs into the rear cockpit when the pilot takes over his Scout bomber to go out on [Music] patrol the aviation radio man operates the radio radio telephone and blinker lights on this plane he is an expert machine gunner while the pilot check his bearing the aviation radio man takes over and flies the plane upon his alertness and Keen observation may depend the safety of his [Music] carrier a submarine Periscope cuts through the water below the radio man sees the thin wake and identifies the submarine as enemy the pilot sees it and gives him a message Charlie toel lips up at 3:00 over breaking radio silence in this emergency he sends the [Music] message a destroyer escorting the carrier picks up the message and speeds to the scene alertness accuracy and Ash cans take care of that [Music] manace as the attack Z develops new problems arise he sees enemy planes heading in the direction of his carrier there's bad company dropping [Music] in charie De Murray six Toe Joe torpedo at 2:00 over radio silence is broken again this is another emergency Aviation radio men aboard the carrier receive the warning and notify their skipper the carrier's planes go into action to intercept the enemy [Music] [Applause] [Music] there's a yellow belly who wants to play patty [Music] cake a machine gun is a handy thing to have in a plane and brother he better be be able to use it [Music]
