Woodland High School Football: Woodland vs. Stockton

Description: Silent color "home-movie" type footage from the May 1957 documenting a large scale training exercise held in Monterey County (Hunter Liggett Military Reservation) for firefighters and fire managers. Shows a full-scale mock fire camp set up for firefighters and fire managers to practice all aspects of organizing and responding to a region-wide wildland fire response. Participation was required for all District personnel including Rangers, Assistant Rangers, Equipment Operators, Dispatchers, Foremen and Drivers, and included a handtool training session prior to ignition of an actual live burn . Footage in excellent condition displays elements of field fire camp as used in the 1950s/60s for fire suppression and vintage fire engines in use, using nice slow pans across the scene, believed to be taken by a skilled photographer for later training use. Training planned and organized by Division of Forestry District V, Rangers Gum from Santa Cruz, Weatherford of Santa Barbara, Nash Boulden from San Luis Obispo, and Austin from Monterey.
