that's the way it should be and that's the way it is here at Sun [Music] Valley this is the story of the potato a universal food for the millions and the Millionaires and how it is grown in our Great West on thousands of Acres of fertile well tended soil this fast operator is cutting seedlings for planting seedlings which have just been through a disinfecting bath to destroy any lurking organisms and which are on their way to the planter the time lapse between cutting the seed and planting should be brief one man dumps the seedlings while another fills the boxes with fertilizer because this machine plants the potatoes drops fertilizer and covers both with soil all in one operation potatoes take constant attention and must be cultivated frequently and over and under spraying like this won't miss a [Music] bug here the farmer has contrived an ingenious duster with a canvas cover which protects the dusting even in a wind Harvest time is a busy time there's a minimum of bruising as the Digger reaches underneath the potatoes drawing them forth cushioned by their own Vines and soil an injured potato is a ruined potato getting it out of the soil unharmed is important and a variety of machines have been designed for this all important job and here they are potatoes ready to be gathered an important food [Music] crop in many places they are retrieved by hand but on other Farms which have large AG of potatoes special machines like this two row Digger save time and effort this machine carries the potatoes up a belt and shakes out the dirt at the same time these men riding on the back remove the residue of small clouds and Vines the potatoes continue on an elevator and drop into a truck keeping Pace [Music] alongside now comes the job of getting them ready for the market [Music] this trough built in the floor of the storage plant floats the potatoes to be grated and washes them at the same [Music] time the watchful eyes of these graters are extra quick to detect for removal the undersized and below grade potatoes note the rubber pads to offset the length of the fall and protect the potatoes sometimes potatoes Doug in the morning are on their way to Market in Express refrigerator CS before dark boy are those Western potatoes worth waiting [Music] for one thing about Sun Valley which appeals to parents is the special attention given to Children Moms and Pops can go their ways knowing that their youngsters also are having the times of their lives Maybe on a hay ride with games or a picnic on the playground there's all the equipment necessary to keep youngsters amused with an experienced companion always on [Music] hand and after an exciting game of Ring Around the Rosie what could be nicer than a little refreshment bet you thought she was going to use the spoon in the winter skiing is a popular sport with the younger set and here they are with their togs and gear all ready to show the older generation a thing or two on the gentest slopes that is and what a time they have there's no problem in interesting kids in this kind of learning how me if only every classroom was as popular I'm sure every parent will agree children appreciate vacations [Music] too one of the strangest sites in our West is the famous Weeping Rock at Zion National Park in Utah actually the tear consist of groundwater seeping from above and flowing over the Rock's Mossy Edge yes it's a strange sight and Weeping Rock is one of the things you'll want to visit when you travel in our Great West unsurpassed for rugged beauty is the Pacific coastline of our great Northwest all along the shores of the western edge of our continent white crested waves forever beat against gnarled rocks and sea sculptured Cliffs here perhaps more than anywhere else the visitor senses the free spirit of the Far West a Scenic Highway runs close to the Sea offering a constantly changing Panorama of surf and sand beaches and frolicking children a perfect combination and pillars of rock carved by the Sea make the broad sandy beaches all the more enjoyable When the tide is low everyone turns out to dig for razor clams got [Music] him it's not the easiest work in the world but it's [Music] rewarding here's the result delicious razor clams to Gladden the heart of any Gourmet offshore sea lions Frisk around on the Rocks protected by the government they have the times of their lives undisturbed by their closeness to [Music] man maybe they enjoy the scenery too who [Music] knows other rocks just offshore are nesting grounds for millions of seabirds [Music] [Applause] [Music] kind of sloppy Landings there fellas occasionally out of the broad Pacific Rise the bulky forms of whales monarchs of the Seven Seas for countless ages notice how close this whale is to the [Music] shore but the most spectacular Scenic attraction along the shores of our Northwest out the waves themselves pounding the shores as they have for millions of years they produce everchanging dramatic [Music] effects it's an interesting scene this Shoreline something you'll want to see when you visit our great Northwest
