Description: From glacial waters, the Volga runs 2,300 miles into the Caspian Sea. The villages and cities of this river are captured in rarely photographed scenes, starting with Volgagrad and ending at Leningrad. Russia is presented as a paradox, where one sees giant hydroelectric power plants, but no electricity, in the backward villages in which 52% of the Russians live. Capitalistic methods introduced in certain factories, resulted in far greater production. Also, the great majority of farm produce comes not from collective farms, but rather from individual plots.
