the familiar phrase visibility fair does not apply only to shipping forecasts it applies to human beings too if your visibility is fair that is if you can't see clearly what goes on around you your eyes need attention and here is someone well qualified to speak on the subject of eyesight dr g c anderson medical secretary of the british medical association it is a truism to say that our eyes are our most valuable possession we know that our very livelihood depends upon them but can it be said that we treat them as such seeking the best possible advice immediately they show any signs of defense i'm sorry to say that many people do not as a medical man i should like to embrace upon you one fundamental fact in connection with the care of the eyes they are not detached mechanical instruments they are living organs of the body directly affecting and affected by our bodily health and condition at the back of the eye there is an extremely complicated system of nerves blood vessels and muscles all of which are linked up directly with other parts of our body a medical man alone possesses the training and experience necessary to examine eyes as living organs the national eye service provides for those who are eligible to take advantage of it the expert medical advice which is so essential together with accurate and well-fitted glasses when these are found to be necessary at moderate charges which include the fee for the medical examination the national eye service is fulfilling a long felt one and i have no hesitation in saying that it is playing an important part in the campaign for the improvement in the health and well-being of the community may i give you a word of advice always consult a medical eye specialist when suffering from eye strain or defective sight if you cannot afford to do so privately take advantage of the national eye service never forget that sight is one of the greatest blessings of mankind it is folly to take any risks with it so please remember in the words of dr anderson sight is one of the greatest blessings of mankind if you have any misgivings about your sight if you are worried by eye strain or defective vision consult a medical eye specialist if you cannot afford to do so privately ask your doctor about the national eye service which is available in all parts of the country
