Description: This film showing victory in Europe begins on May 2nd, 1945 with images of the German capitulation in Berlin, including members of the German general staff emerging from what might be the command bunker (:38). German prisoners are seen on the streets of a still-smouldering Berlin (:50). At (:55), T-38 tanks and Red Army soldiers are shown on the move. At (1:00) a female traffic control officer stands in front of the shattered Brandenburg Gate while at (1:06) Soviet troops celebrate the victory. At (1:20) the events of May 8th in Berlin are shown, with Marshal Zukhov and representatives of the Allies and German Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel. (This was actually a second surrender ceremony, insisted upon by Soviet Premier Josef Stalin. The first took place on May 7, when German Col. Gen. Alfred Jodl signed Germany's surrender on all fronts in Reims, France.) At (2:49) celebrations on the 9th of May are shown, followed at (3:08) with a parade on Red Square on June 24. At (3:35) Stalin is shown atop the Kremlin wall reviewing the parade. At (4:30) Soviet infantry parade with the standards and insignias of the Wehrmacht armies. These are thrown down to the base of the Lenin mausoleum.
