Victorian Flower Paintings: A Pictorial Record of a Schizophrenic Episode

Produced by the Institute of Psychiatry, London

Paintings from a folio in the Guttmann-Maclay collection are dated so that they can be sampled over a period of a year and a half. These watercolors of flowers undergo fantastic distortions in the middle period and revert later to the conventional, thus indicating that the unknown artist was undoubtedly passing through a temporary phase of schizophrenic illness
