USMC 113036 Decade 1980 Date 1983-09-10 Description Film shot aboard the USS Sterett (CG-31) in mid-September 1983 documenting close encounters with Soviet surface vessels and aircraft (rotary and fixed-wing) as part of the search for Korean Airlines Flight 007. Sterett makes way on open seas to be met by USCG Douglas Munro (WHEC-724). On September 15th, the Sterett is shown at the Search and Rescue site, with USNS Narragansett (T-ATF-167). Soviet ships and aircraft operate in close proximity to the Sterett. Launches from Sterett and other US vessels sail between ships ferrying sailors and supplies.
