Perot stresses the transferability of skills to businesses. He argues that American businesses are starved for managers. Leadership skills from World War II migrated with service members into the business world and made possible much of the nation's growth. He urges that no person be given a management role unless that person cares about the people to be managed. He reflects on his decision to leave the Navy for the business world and contends "that the pursuit of dollars is a pretty hollow way to spend your life."
