USMC 104393 Decade 1950 Date 1957-1-27 Description Sightseeing tour by NCO club of Camp Courtney to Nago, Okinawa in Japan. 3rd Marine Division goes on a sightseeing trip to Nago in the North of Okinawa, Japan. A military licensed bus drops off unidentified members of the 3rd Marine division, they are in plainclothes. They are led by a Japanese tour guide. The marines observe an entrance to a shrine and take photographs. The bus pulls into Camp Courtney staff NCO (non-commissioned officers) club parking lot, where the marines exit the vehicle and enter the staff NCO club. The bus returns to pick up members of the 3rd Marine Division to continue the sight seeing trip to Kim Village. The bus driver, tour guide, and MSgt. Richard G. Waite have a discussion over a map of the island. The bus pulls over in a small village to observe Japanese women and children washing clothes in a communal area. The bus moves deeper into the village. Two unidentified marines are amused by a replica of Le Mannequin de Pis. They are both shoeless as they are inside the Hotel Koyokan. A group from the 3rd Marine Division continues through the village on foot. They take in the sights before the group returns to the bus. The bus is on a mountain road and passes several farmers with horse driven carts. A group looks down while two Japanese guides make explanations. The 3rd Marine division observe a traditional Japanese home or shrine. Members from the 3rd Marine Division once again exit the bus and make their way into town. A group of unknown marines take turns photographing each other on the beach. One marine helps the other with his camera while two others take photos behind them. Two unknown marines cross the street as a horse-led cart passes.
