Erskine, Brigadier General Harry B. Liversedge , and the Fallbrook Riders of San Diego County ride on horseback. A horse drawn wagon operated by two civilians carries the First Division Marine Band. Civilians on horseback carry the U.S. flag, the flag of California, and an unidentified flag. Civilians ride down a road on horseback. Erskine hands awards to various Marines. A drill squad of Montford Point Marines stand in the background while Erskine presents awards to winners of the day's competition. An unidentified African American Sergeant from the drill team receives a plaque. Erskine presents a trophy to a Lieutenant Colonel. Marines sit in the grandstands, spectate the events, and enjoy refreshments. Marines race while pulling ammunition carts, run a three-legged race, race with 60 mm mortars, race with 81 mm mortars, and run a 100 yard dash. The Marine Corps Band plays music. Marines participate in a pie eating contest, race in a pool with their boots on, swim the backstroke, swim the breaststroke, swim the front crawl, and dive off of a diving board.
