USMC 103318 Decade 1950 Description The TTU (Troop Training Unit) was a special Naval unit mostly composed of Marines who fought in the Pacific in WWII. The initial function of the TTU was to teach amphibious landing skills to all of the military services. After the entrance of Communist China into the Korean War in late 1950, the TTU took on the task of training troops for amphibious evacuation. TTU maneuvers at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base. An Underground Demolition Team (UDT) sits in a rubber assault boat and watches as an underwater explosive detonates. The UDT pulls a rubber assault boat to the shore. A member of the UDT plunges the detonator. Marines climb down cargo nets into LCMs and LCVPs moored next to a ship. An unidentified officer wearing a "TTU" armband supervises the Marines boarding the LCMs and LCVPs. General Lemuel C. Shepherd Jr. and an unidentified officer watch Marines train. Shepherd and the unidentified officer get into a staff car. Shepherd and unidentified Marine officers inspect quonset huts. Shepherd and unidentified Marine officers talk on the beach, while LCVPs maneuver in the background. Marines in combat dress march in column formation. Marines climb down cargo nets into LCVPs moored next to a ship. Footage of signs that read, "G-3 T.T.U." and "G-1 T.T.U.". Footage of general orders on a communication board.
