Description
The TTU (Troop Training Unit) was a special Naval unit mostly composed of Marines who fought in the Pacific in WWII. The initial function of the TTU was to teach amphibious landing skills to all of the military services. After the entrance of Communist China into the Korean War in late 1950, the TTU took on the task of training troops for amphibious evacuation.
TTU maneuvers in Puerto Rico. A LST and a number of LTV-3s move through the water. Marines push a LCVP loose from the shore. A Marine aboard the LCVP holds up a red danger flag. A truck backs into the mouth of an LST. A bulldozer pushes a supply trailer into the mouth of an LST. Marines in combat dress and field marching packs board a LCVP on the shore with the hull number "PA217-16", indicating the presence of the USS New Kent (APA-217). The bow gates of PA217-16 lift up. Marines board the LCVP PA218-8 and PA218-12, indicating the presence of the USS Noble (APA-218). A Marine works a signal blinker on the shore. Marines board a LCVP. Marines walk down a road. An attack transport operates a blinker offshore. An unidentified Marine officer speaks at a map briefing with other unidentified Marine officers, including a Brigadier General and a Major General. TBM Avengers fly over a Naval ship. A chaplain holds a Christian service attended by Marines and sailors. A serviceman holds the Song and Service Book for Ship and Field: Army and Navy.
