USMC 103312 Decade 1950 Description The TTU (Troop Training Unit) was a special Naval unit mostly composed of Marines who fought in the Pacific in WWII. The initial function of the TTU was to teach amphibious landing skills to all of the military services. After the entrance of Communist China into the Korean War in late 1950, the TTU took on the task of training troops for amphibious evacuation. TTU activities at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base. LVT-3s lined up. Marines disembark LVT-3s and fall into prone positions. Marines paddle rubber assault boats. Two unidentified Marine officers leave a house and approach a car. An unidentified enlisted Marine salutes the officers, opens the car door for them, and then gets in driver's seat. A Marine and a sailor work in the ComPhibTraLant Publications Library. A Marine with a "TTU" armband hands publications to the sailor. Two of the publications handed to the sailor are "The Theater of Operations Shantung Province" and "Action Report Ryukyus Operation Appendices Corps Operation Orders and G-3 Periodic Reports; III Amphibious Corps". The Marine hands a requisition slip to the sailor. The Marine wearing the "TTU" armband uses a typewriter while two other Marines read through publications. Marines create graphics at a large table. Large diagrams of rubber assault boats hang on the wall. A Marine and two sailors work on signs. The Marine and one of the sailors have "TTU" armbands.
