Description
Marines compete in .30 caliber rifle and .45 caliber pistol shooting matches at Quantico on July 26th, 1954. Scorers watch as Marines shoot standing and in prone position. Scorers mark on a scoreboard. An unidentified Marine records the placement of his shots in a booklet. An unidentified Marine looks through a scope. A box next to this Marine has writing that is illegible. A scorer, presumably SSgt. C.J. Donch, fills out a scoreboard with the following names: T.R. Mitchell (Capt), D.L. Rukstalis (Cpl), J. Galbraith (PFC), and C.J. Donch (SSgt). An unidentified Marine in prone position fires two rounds and records the placement of his shots in a booklet. Unidentified lieutenants hold large silver trophies. General Clifton B. Cates speaks from a podium. Numerous trophies line a table to Cates' right. Behind Cates sits Major General Merritt A. Edson, who wears civilian clothes. Marines and civilians watch the awards ceremony. An unidentified officer speaks at the podium. Edson, Major General Edwin A. Pollock, and unidentified civilians shake hands with Marines and give them their awards. Shooters move to the next fire line. Shooters gather around a large scoreboard. The following names are visible on the scoreboard: Schier (Sgt), Palmer (MSgt), Bevers (Capt), Jones (1stSgt), Ott (Sgt), King (Capt), Fowler (MSgt), Blackett (SSgt), Magee (1stSgt), Simon (Sgt), Clark (1stSgt), Wright (1stSgt), Mathis (1stSgt), Arnold (1stSgt), Arndt (1stSgt), Mitchell (SSgt), Tate (MSgt), Fournier (1stLt), Mitchell (SSgt), Hopkins (PFC), Rose (SSgt), Counselman (Capt), Beilfuss (1stSgt), Darling (Capt), Teerela (CWO), Wiley (1stLt), and Cable (2ndLt). Scorers watch the pistol firing line. Firers and scorers examine pistol targets. An unidentified civilian and three Marine lieutenants gather around a large plaque. Unidentified civilians award trophies to Marines. Marines fire pistols from firing lines.
