Some smoke cigarettes; some have grease-paint on their faces. Marines land on the beach and engage in combat. Flame-throwers and other hand-held weapons are seen. Destroyers offer naval gunfire support. Marines load and fire the howitzer, ""Glamour Gal,"" and M2 mortars. Movement inland is supported by M4 tanks of the Fifth Tank Battalion. Mt. Suribachi is seen in the background. Marines assist wounded back to the beach as the sun sets. Marines raise the American flag atop Mt Suribachi (second flag raising).
