USMC 100603 Decade 1940 Date 1942 Description Industrial film produced in 1942 by the U.S. Navy Department, under the supervision of the Bureau of Aeronautics, centering around the innovative and improvised ways in which aircraft manufacturers used hydraulic presses to produce metal parts for military planes during World War II. The first part of the film highlights some of these methods, including use of rubber sheets to fill press molds and create smoother, more precise parts; as well as use of rotating presses, allowing faster and more efficient loading and pressing of sheet metal.
