USMC 100601 Decade 1960 Description Public relations film produced by Boeing Vertol during the Vietnam War spotlighting use of their CH-47 Chinook and CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters in rescue and aid operations both at home and in Vietnam. The first sequence features use of the Chinook in the rescue of 61 Boy Scouts and 14 adult leaders at a winter scouting camp in Rising Sun, Maryland, where they had been trapped after a severe snow storm. The second sequence explains the essential role played by the Sea Knight in aid operations by the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division Airmobile and the U.S. Military's Civic Action Program. This section explains how Sea Knights are used to transport Vietnamese people out of Viet Cong-held areas and to deliver food and supplies to settlements of Vietnamese war victims.
