Description
Footage of the Marines of the 3rd Division and 3rd Amphibious Corps returning to the site of the end of the Battle of Okinawa and raising the American flag on June 27, 1945. A sign designates the location, Mobuni Town on the southern tip of the island, as the site of the final organized stand by Japanese Lt. Gen. Ushijima against the American 7th Infantry Division the previous week. Footage from several angles also captures Marines stepping forward to be awarded and pinned with medals on June 30, 1945. Separate scene of colors performed on the island with Lt. Gen. Geiger.
