relief of human suffering the Air Force stands always ready to serve the place is Fort Benning Georgia where 34 Air Force Academy Cadets are undergoing Airborne training right along with the Airborne infantry units at this jump training center the academy Cadets volunteered to give up their summer leave time to take this tough 3-we course which demands the greatest discipline and physical stamina the only drag the cadets had at Fort Benning was supplied by the windblown parachute as they mastered recovery techniques at the end of two weeks the trainees get up in the world 250 ft up for a simulated live jump this is graduation the final jump before qualifying for jump wings from a c123 provider the trainee plunge earthward from an altitude of 1250 ft the cadetes have learned their lesson well and have gained knowledge of a sister service which will serve them when they take their place as future Air Force leaders jumping here and there around the Air Force Scott Air Force Force Base Illinois an estimated 100,000 people turn out for a dayong show designed to give the public a firsthand look at some of America's Aerospace power and to keep as many people as possible off the smashing success this year at Fort Brag Air Reserve Air Guard Tactical Air Command and Military Air transport service flew more than 11,600 hours without an accident or incident a perfect safety record during the month-long joint Army Air Force exercise aircraft in commission rates were high 85% for the fighters and this in included nearly 900 missions for all types of jets Troop Carrier planes flew 990 combat sorties delivering 10,419 paratroopers and nearly 2900 tons of heavy equipment over 98% of the missions assigned were completed only four of the nearly 1,000 sorties were aborted due to aircraft malfunction [Music] the fact that bright star pine cone 3 was carried out in a congested area without incident or accident involving aircraft is attribute to the professional competence of the air reserve forces and regular units of the United States Air Force [Music] under the warm subtropic sun of Egan Air Force Base there's a special hanger where right now the temperature is 25 Dees below zero during the past year over 700 Pilots Navigators and air crewmen have undergone physiological and survival training in this climatic laboratory where temperatures as low as- 60 5° can be produced the basic factors to be learned in this training are to become acquainted with the sudden shock of the cold of the Arctic and to work together as a team in a survival situation one man is always designated a casualty which puts a damper on the speed in getting shelter and enables the crew to get realistic team experience yes it's cold here in Florida mighty cold the nation's Airlines scenes like this at Washington National Airport were the rule all over the United States and Canada as all civil aviation was grounded and operation Sky Shield tested the defense systems of the North American Air Defense command all navigational AIDS were jammed as would be the case should our continent experience [Music] attack during the 7-hour test sack B52 and b47 bombers plied the white Sky giving 200,000 ground and air Crews an idea of what to expect in an actual [Music] attack Sky Shield was vast about 22 million square miles reaching from near the North Pole to
