Year Published: 1966

Creator: Nadia Chilkovsky Nahumck

Complete Record: Recreations of two traditional Philippine dance styles: Tinikling and Pandango Sa Ilaw. Opens with an archival image of Tinkiling being performed in a rural village. Cut to a modern (1960s) studio with a group of people recreating the dance in white ruffled shirts. A man and woman dance between two bamboo poles held at either end by another man and woman. In thebackground are musicians. First we see still progressions of the dance moves, then live action enactment of the dance. The same setup follows for Pandango Sa Ilaw. This time, though, it’s a couple on their own with the woman wearing a large blue dress. As part of the dance, she balances objects on her head.
