He is asked what is wrong with Republican State Chairman Gaylord Parkinson being reimbursed for his work. Parkinson has been accused of receiving thousands of dollars as personal income from a secret fund maintained by "right-wingers and leading supporters of Ronald Reagan." Kelly says the issue is that the fund was kept secret and not presented to the state central committee. He suspects that some of the donations to the fund had been promised by supporters of Reagan, and the state coordinator is supposed to maintain neutrality. Segment 2 (silent): Short, grainy, hand-held clip of two young men inside a room with blinds in the background. It is not clear from the broadcast script what this footage relates to. Reel 2 (sound): Monterey-based KNTV reporter Dennis Rowedder reads from a script outside the front door of a man he has just interviewed, who keeps a pet boa constrictor named "Junior." Only Rowedder's microphone and notes are visible as he reads from his script. Rowedder had come to interview Bill Roach [or Roche], who is an ex-cowboy who keeps his pet boa constrictor in the house. When Rowedder arrived, Roach opened the door to the snake's cage and took him out; Rowedder jokes in a semi-serious tone that he was scared of the snake and was glad to make it to the front door. [According to the script, there was footage of the snake and the interview, and of Rowedder disappearing into the distance, but this footage is not part of the collection] Reel 3 (sound): Ed Fretus is interviewed about his taxpayers suit against Swift and Company to prevent a slaughterhouse from coming to San Jose. Fretus says he is motivated by conservation issues. The meatpacking plant will unleash 2.5 million gallons of water a day into the San Francisco Bay, and the Bay needs to start being cleaned up and reclaimed for future generations.
