Description: This film is a haunting sequel to the director's documentary Todos Santos Cuchumatan: Report from a Guatemalan Village, shot in 1979 about an isolated Mam Indian village. In the intervening years, the inhabitants have suffered repression and violence at the hands of guerrilla bands and the Guatemalan government's military death squads. The political turmoil has affected farming and seasonal migration patterns with many families fleeing to Guatemala City or Mexico. Cultural and religious dislocation have ruptured the traditional fabric of life. Compulsory civilian patrols closely monitor the population as part of the army's counterinsurgency strategy. People who were once open in conversation are afraid to discuss their situation. (See: Todos Santos Cuchumatan)
