TO WIN THE PEACE

foreign so yes the united states has gone wild with peace the post-war world that everyone dreamed about is really here and the american people are making up for lost time the brakes are off no more gas rationing no more restrictions mr and mrs america are going places every man woman and child is on the move again but my daddy walks funny my husband is blind he can't walk by himself my boy won't ever walk again but there was a time when they could walk walk with a firm step and their shoulders back they could scramble down the side of a ship they could run ashore on d-day and establish a beach head they could fly planes fire guns and fight the enemy until he surrendered yes that war is over but there are still a great many battles to be fought and for the men fighting them they're just as real as batan iwo jima guadalcanal tarawa okinawa for these men v-day will come and they can leave the hospital and take their places in the world for which they fought that this victory shall be theirs is our obligation but we are the people who sent them halfway around the world to fight for us buying victory bonds can never bring back those men who died that we might live in a free world but for those men who can and must live again victory bonds will mean the finest medical care that this country can offer today the world is at peace but there can be no peace in our hearts while men lie wounded by victory bonds for the man who bought victory for you
