Description: Relates, through recollections of 83-year-old C. A. "Tinker" Dobson, the only remaining blacksmith in a small Midwestern town, the essence of the dying blacksmith trade. Observes that Dobson recalls the day "when everybody needed a blacksmith" to make everything from buggy wheels and shovels to horseshoes and explains that today he feels things are made faster and cheaper, but not as well. Accompanies Dobson's retrospection with a young blacksmith building a fire and demonstrating how to make tools and horseshoes.
