now the colorful result her classmate however comes to a different conclusion complex physical processes are studied in biology and this girl isn't squeamish in another phase of the work the human body and its functions are examined with the help of Psy the only dummy in the class tousser here still serves mankind taking leave of the administration building we stroll toward the new and nearby Alumni Hall functional as well as beautiful in its modern architecture it houses an apple Auditorium with a seating capacity of 600 at this Chapel assembly attendance slips are [Music] taken prominent in the service is the college vested choir its members are filing in now [Music] proceeding down the aisle the choir takes its place upon the stage students participate at religious assemblies but the benediction is given by a faculty member the small Auditorium in Alumni Hall called The Little Theater is used by specialized groups and for lesser assemblies this is a drama class in session Lee's Memorial Chapel in the same building is also ideal for intimate meetings and a dignified restful and religious atmosphere almost the entire north side of alumni hall is devoted to the art Department a colorful and integral part of the cultural development at cedarest not all these students will become professional artists and illustrators but all will gain through doing a finer appreciation for works of art other classes too are conducted in Alumni Hall these girls are studying philosophy it contains a number of secluded soundproof music practice rooms organ is taught in the chapel and in spot to meet and entertain friends important uses made of the College library many do most of their studying here it's not only the quietest spot in the building a central place for classmates to meet and compare their notes but the one location where all types of reference works are always close at hand while we're still in Curtis Hall we can visit the college infirmary got a cold or sore throat here's what we'll do minor hers are looked after too more rooms for students are contained in a separate dormatory Crest Hall Crest Hall is smaller but just as modern as Curtis Hall and equally comfortable with the same congenial atmosphere and beautiful surroundings this is the president's home and this is Hillside house the practice house and model home for home economic students here the skills of homemaking are t color matching is an important preliminary to dress making the girls learn sewing by Machine as well as by hand step by step they're taught the modern seamstress art for personal satisfaction economy and to prepare them for becoming more versatile wives and mothers meal preparation is important too these girls for instance have devised an extra tasty salad they can bake a sweet sweet roll as well and they're taught to serve the food they prepare you can see that these dishes are never wasted company's coming and that calls for a special table setting instructor and classmates can be highly critical seems there's even an art to pouring water and to placing Cutlery as well as using it nobody likes to make a bed but they must be made and remade and Cedar Crest girls learn correct and efficient methods yes there's even a baby to care for at Hillside house the students feed clothe and take complete charge of a real live baby they also engage in child study through observation more of the Practical education that goes hand inand with the liberal arts courses the Cedar Crest College program also offers healthful Recreation activity golf for instance on the professionally laid out n hole course owned and operated by the college golf is a sport at cedarest that's truly enjoyed by almost every student tennis instruction is given on the campus courts here tennis classes are held drills are prescribed and the girls play singles and doubles matches when the weather is good tennis is always in season hockey enthusiasts well ped against the flying flowing costumes another example of healthful Outdoors activity regular classes in the open shade on warmest days and when subjects lend themselves to such refreshing treatment sociology and psychology students go even farther a field observing the work of social agencies in New York and Philadelphia extracurricular opportunities include the international relations club and foreign language societies attended by Foreign students from other colleges the annual Greek plays rank among the great cultural events of the Lehigh Valley girls may study broadcasting and theater techniques recordings are made of the students delivery for self-examination and progress guides this girl has heard herself as others hear her a YWCA Bazaar provides cus fun plenty of good things to eat their own best advertising games galore and a chance to daa faculty member a volunteer he doesn't seem to mind and afterward cooling drinks for all Junior Prom while many social Affairs including dancers are held on the campus this extra special event is taken to one of the country clubs cedarest officials faculty members and their wives and junior class officers greet the arriving [Music] guests escorts are from nearby colleges and universities some from the celebrating Junior's home communities and all are here for a memorable evening of dancing and entertainment with music by a favorite band the girls and their escorts and a traditional prominade for Big City fun New York and Philadelphia are close at hand allent Town itself is a city of homes whose residents take friendly and prideful interest in the students and doings at Cedar Crest College these dwellings are on the west side of the city near the college campus Allentown is also a city of 87 churches of 39 denominations this is Old Zion where the Liberty Bell was hidden from the British and where Cedar Crest had its start in 1867 the famous public park system has an acre of Park to every 100 persons Allentown has several Coral societies a symphony orchestra and operatic group and a number of excellent bands frequent showings of sculpture and paintings are held in the public library and art museum the finest stage shows come to the city direct from New York and there's an Ive Little Theater Company mberg College for men is located in allent toown 2 a scene at Lehi University at adjoining Bethlehem Moravian College also at Bethlehem and Lafayette College in nearby Easton Parents Day at see the crest features a colorful program of class singing on the broad steps of the College administration be worn until degrees are received at commencement exercises each graduate to be selects a relative ofal friend to help her Dawn her gown then the dean of women places a graduation cap on the head of each class [Music] member Refreshments are served near the scene of the vesting and pictures of the vested girls are taken by friends and families the yearbooks are out and being called for at the College Store comes alumni day with scores of graduates from other years returning to the campus distinguished alumni are gathered for picture taking in the foyer of alumni hall meantime College grounds are humming with alumni activities some of the visiting graduates renewing friendships in front of Curtis Hall an alumni luncheon is held and speaking of old grads one of these cedarest girls is back for her 75th class reunion on graduation day the school year is climaxed all that has gone before was merely preliminary to this the most colorful most solemn and most important of all school activities every year in ceremonies such as these about 70 girls are graduated culminating their four years of study and impressive rituals such as this procession by the faculty in graduating class through campus Lanes to the open air theater soon you'll see the amphitheater a natural pocket near the administration building backed by pruned hedge RS and a great summer circle of tulip trees the setting also used for the annual Greek play and other outdoor performances in debly please this great event of the year at Cedar Crest is also well attended by the town's people president of Cedar Crest since 1942 Dr Dale Moore Awards the diplomas by virtue of the authority vested in Me by The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and by the Board of Trustees of CED Crest College I hereby confer upon you the degree of Bachelor of artarts with all the rights and privileges pertaining there to president Moore himself was educated in the United States England and Canada he is a former College pastor at the University of Michigan and professor of religion at Lafayette College after presentation of student diplomas the graduates are seated in the amphitheater from here in their special front and center section they watch the awarding of honorary degrees recipients are persons who have distinguished themselves in public life or through exceptional service to the college Dr Moore is making the
