Demonstrates by observing inappropriate and appropriate nurse interactions with a patient's relative how communication is usually more effective when the emotions of the situation are acknowledged and dealt with before any attempt is made to cope with the problem. Shows how tone of voice, actions, and implications upset one nurse, causing her to make a defensive response. Depicts a nurse who listens to the patient's daughter while, at the same time, detecting the hidden meaning of her message.
